The biggest impression Carol Gaab has had on me as a teacher of novice language learners has been that the input that learners receive should be comprehensible and compelling and delivered in a novel way (be repetitive without being boring). The input should be compelling to the learners, not necessarily the teacher. A recent example of this is the Martínez Twins. Reading about them and watching their videos is super not fun for me, but for my learners there is an interest in either loving them or hating them. Either way, there are some strong emotions. The Martinez Twins worked their way into a class story so I followed up with a reading (novice low) about them and a short #authres listening for gist and keywords activity.
